Walker Medical
Instructional Services was founded in 1998 in Walker, Michigan. Its purpose is to serve the medical field in a select few
of its fastest growing areas. The need for competent, compassionate hands-on caregivers is only going to expand and there
will be an upward growth cycle for many years. Walker Medical has an excellent reputation for the quality of their training
from area employers and the medical community.
Since 1998 WMIS has offered a comprehensive state Certified Nurse
Aide Training program. Since 2004 WMIS has offered the Patient
Care Technician certification program.
The Lead Instructors are all Registered Nurses. The CNA Lead Instructors
have been state certified as Train the Trainer’s. We carefully select only the best and they each have a rich history
of working and teaching in today’s complex medical community.
The classroom teaching and laboratory sessions
are operated out of Walker Medical’s main campus located at 1035 Four Mile Road NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544.
In 2003, Walker Medical signed a partnership agreement with Grand Rapids Community College to offer CNA classes at GRCC’s
Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC building and labs in the downtown campus facility. The partnership with GRCC has opened up many new
avenues for students who interested in furthering their medical education. The program at GRCC is overseen by an Advisory
Committee made up of community leaders representing a broad spectrum of medical and medical employment backgrounds. Walker Medical conducts its clinical practicum with our clinical partners. We are proud
of the broad range of experience our students can receive at Clark Retirement Community, Porter Hills Presbyterian
Village, Spectrum Kent Community Campus, Metro Health Hospital, St. Ann's Home and Brookcrest.
The emphasis of the teaching and clinical settings is:
Training knowledgeable, competent, and compassionate
health care workers who transfer safely and smoothly into the working world to begin their medical careers.
Holistic
health care reflects the four dimensions of a whole person: physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual.
Humanistic health care involves treating each person as an individual and respecting all cultures and beliefs.
We believe in training individuals to practice holistic, humanistic health care.
